Football Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and specialist Wil Lutz provided the game-winning decisive three-pointer to seal the ugly win.
Defensive Display Seals Contest
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a safety in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets could only produce just 82 total net yards during the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with just over five minutes left.
Record Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their horrendous performance, the Jets maintained possession with a opportunity to score a possible winning score. But Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of calling on specialist Nick Folk for a long kick.
Fields struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," the coach commented after the game.
